When You’re Tired of Fighting – A Tale of Two Warriors

If you have ever felt like you’re in an exhausting fight, it’s because you are. As much as the enemy would like to convince you otherwise, your spiritual battle is a real one. It is not a figment of your imagination.

Simply put, if Jesus is your Savior then the devil is your relentless opponent.

To help, consider Psalm 52 for a moment. There, David contrasts two types of warriors: those who do not trust God versus those that do.  The former ultimately lose their fight but the latter end up thriving because of God’s love and grace.

Look what happens to mighty warriors
who do not trust in God.
They trust their wealth instead
and grow more and more bold in their wickedness.” But I am like an olive tree, thriving in the house of God.
I will always trust in God’s unfailing love. (NLT)

While this is an inspiring scene from David’s life, we know that it wasn’t always easy for him. Like us, he also got bamboozled by the adversary from time to time. He, too, had a hard time staying focused. And there was that regrettable occasion when he naively checked out for some romance when he should have been fighting for all he was worth (II Samuel 11:1-5).

But thankfully, just because you’re down doesn’t necessarily mean you’re out. Even when you get pounded by the adversary, there is no good reason why you can’t get back up and stand your ground. By God’s grace, you can once again live in the victory that is fully yours in and through Jesus.

Indulge, if you will, a quote from Rocky Balboa:

“It isn’t about how hard you can hit…it’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.”

Hey warrior, did you hear that? Listen…someone’s cheering for you.

It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
