Have you found changing hours of operation among businesses and organizations a little challenging lately? Are they closed or open? Can I walk in now, or is it drive-thru only? I can’t tell you how many times in the last couple of months I’ve pulled on a door only to find it locked with a piece of paper taped on it and a message about adjusted hours.
This morning I am reminded that there’s one place I can visit 24/7/365 and know that I’m going to be received and welcomed. Whenever I need help, regardless of the day, time, or circumstance, I can go to this place and find exactly what I need.
I speak, of course, of God’s Throne of Grace.
Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.
Hebrews 4:16
This wonderful promise is tucked in a passage that describes Jesus as our High Priest who, by the sacrifice of Himself, makes it possible for us to repeatedly and freely approach God for mercy and grace. This means that not only did God extend mercy and grace to us when we first placed our faith in His Son, He also makes mercy and grace available to us on an ongoing basis, as needs arise.
It’s safe to say that we all need a lot of help right now. The circumstances in front of us are a reminder of our serious need for the kindness and favor of God. The question is, are we ready and willing to do what it takes to access God’s mercy and grace? Are we willing to humble ourselves and honor God by drawing near to His throne of grace in prayer?
Whether it’s 5am or 10 pm as you read this, the good news is the Throne of Grace is open and walk-ins are always welcome.
So, shall we pray?
Father, we come to you today in Jesus’ Name, requesting your help. We approach your throne not with hesitation but with confidence, knowing that Jesus has made it possible. This is a time of need like we’ve never seen before. We’re not sure what to think or feel, but we know this: we need your mercy and grace more than we need anything else right now. So would you grant it, please? Would you forgive us for offending you and help us through this hard time? Help us to know what to let go of and what to hang onto. Would you give us wisdom for decisions and a peace to calm our anxious hearts? Thank You for always being open and for never being closed. Remind us of our real needs and who alone can meet them. Our love and praise to You, In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
