Terminology may change with the times, but at its core it’s the same old battle
“We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” -2 Corinthians 10:3-5
A lady walks into a restaurant with a t-shirt that catches your eye. It’s a black shirt with these words in white letters: “SPIRITUAL GANGSTER.”
You give it a double-take because the gal looks nothing like a gangster. She is middle-aged, has small children with her, and appears to be completely harmless. She isn’t sporting a snap-back hat, her clothes aren’t bagging, no ink on her arms, no bling.
But she is making a statement with that t-shirt. She wants you to know something about her.
Just as she hoped it would, her t-shirt gets you thinking…wondering, “What exactly is a spiritual gangster?”
You’re not sure but you figure it’s probably a safe bet that the lady with the t-shirt fits this profile:
- She is a believer in Jesus.
- She prays.
- She is dialed in when it comes to spiritual warfare.
- She doesn’t just read the Bible. She uses it to fight back.
- She doesn’t fight alone. She has allies.
- She is not about to back down.
- She falls down sometimes, but she never stays down.
The more you think about it, the more sense it makes. As it turns out, spiritual gangster is just new terminology for a battle that’s been going on for a long time. Not everybody gets it, but the lady with the t-shirt, she gets it.
It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
