If Only the Devil Took the Summer Off

Sometimes we forget that taking a rest is God’s idea, not the enemy’s

Be sober and alert. Your enemy the devil, like a roaring lion,is on the prowl looking for someone to devour. 1 Peter 5:8

It’s official, the devil does not go on summer vacation.

As the leader, protector, and spiritual watchdog of my family, I’m afraid I let my guard down a few days ago and the destroyer took full advantage of the open door.

It was very hot outside, everyone’s patience was stretched thin, and tempers were flaring.

Before I knew it, we had a bad case of mis-managed conflict on our hands. We were chafed and fussing over something that really didn’t matter.

Rather than fighting the good fight together, we were foolishly letting the enemy play us against one another.

For a moment, I lost track of the fact that, even though it is summertime – the season of flip-flops, swimming pools, and frozen drinks – it still is a season of spiritual warfare.

Because the enemy is a relentless workaholic who never gives up on deceiving, dividing, and destroying, we can’t afford to take one day off from resisting him.

So, starting today, I’m asking God to help me to have a higher level of spiritual awareness and focus, even though it’s summertime.

I’ll still be rocking the flip-flops.

But I’ll also be wielding a sword.

It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
