A Message from God: “I See You”

Remember when you were a kid and you were doing something really special, how you wanted someone to watch you? Like when you learned to ride your bike with one hand, or when you jumped off the diving board for the first time? Maybe it sounded something like,

Dad, look at me! Over here…watch this!”

Or, when you hurt yourself do you remember how important it was to get someone’s eyes on the injury asap? You would hold out that scraped hand, or raise up your banged-up knee with pride so they could see it and tell you whether you were going to live or not?

Within all of us there is a desperate desire to be noticed, and we never outgrow it. Even as adults, we hope that someone is noticing us as we give life our very best shot. The thought that no one might be watching, that no one sees us is…unbearable.

But sometimes that is exactly the way it feels, like we’re giving it all we’ve got and not even God is paying any attention.

David, the brave heart of Israel, even felt this way at times. When life got hectic for him, he would make statements like this:

Why, O Lord, do you stand far away?
Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble? – Psalm 10:1

In other words, “God, do you see me? I’m over here. Please notice! I need you right now.”

Yet, after taking some time to regroup and re-orient himself to the Lord, David regained confidence that not only was God still watching, He was watching from a position of absolute power and concern. Notice how his perspective changed:

The Lord is in his holy temple; the Lord’s throne is in heaven.
His eyes watch; his eyes examine all people. -David, Psalm 11:4

David, the same person who had thought God was not paying attention at the worst possible moment realized that one of God’s attributes is that He is really good at keeping track of us. Even when we can’t see Him, He sees us. Even when we feel like the kid who can’t get his Dad’s attention, He still sees.

Take a moment right now to bask in the truth that God sees you. Be assured of it. If life is good and you’re pumped with excitement, He sees. Or, on the other hand, if you’re in a hard place and hurting, He sees that, too. Either way, go ahead, give life your best shot today because God is watching.

It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
