Sometimes we lose sight of the otherness of God, but his love, power, and patience make him one of a kind

For you are great and do wondrous things; you alone are God.

– David, Psalm 86:10

For all those who have had your head down lately, working and minding your own business, maybe now would be a good time for a refreshing reminder of the goodness of God.

If you have been let down by people or disappointing circumstances, perhaps the best thing you could do would be to begin getting acquainted, or reacquainted, with God. The more you get to know him, the more you will realize that in your relationship with him you have something that you cannot get from this world.

To help understand this idea, you might think of it in terms of 3 things you would never hear God say:

  1. Wow, I never saw that coming.” Because God is all-knowing, he is never surprised by the things that surprise us. He already knows what’s coming around the bend. When we are rocked by the unexpected, he remains the Rock of our salvation. Instead of panicking, he invites us to be still and know that he is God.
  2. Sorry, there’s nothing I can do.” Whether from the doctor, the lawyer, or the banker, these are difficult words to process. But thankfully, these words are not in the Lord’s repertoire. There’s always something he can do. As Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” (Matthew 19:26)
  3. Fix this now, or I’m leaving.” To be sure, God wants us to grow and change, but he doesn’t give us ultimatums like this. He doesn’t threaten to leave us if we don’t get our act together. In fact, just the opposite. He wants us to have a sense of security that he is for us and with us, even when we have fallen flat on our faces. To that end, he has pledged to never abandon us or stop loving us under any circumstance.

If you need good news today, God still reigns above this world and, through Jesus, you can have a personal relationship with him. If you’ve never taken him up on the invitation, may today be the day.

It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
