Your Single Greatest Ability

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your spiritual worship.”

Romans 12:1

Ever wish you had more talent, personality, experience, giftedness, beauty, etc. so you could be more effective for God? Maybe as you look at others you feel a little left out in these categories?

But what if the opportunity to be used by God has less to do with our ability and more to do with our availability? We’re all fascinated with the idea of being on the A-list, but what if God is more than happy to use B-list people to accomplish His work in the world?

The Bible is really clear on this point. Going way back, God’s record is one of using the ordinary folks, the ones that show up everyday with this simple attitude:

Here I am, Lord.”

From Abraham, to Isaiah, to Mary, and countless others, God shows us that it is the ones who trust Him and make themselves available that become His agents of grace in this world.

If you don’t happen to be feeling very useful to God today…if you cannot imagine how He could possibly use your life to accomplish His redemptive purposes, you share the sentiments of just about every faithful servant, past and present.

Just remember, your single greatest ability is your availability.

May we not be so preoccupied with ________________ that we neglect to say four of the most important words we could say today:

Here I am Lord.”

It’s a new day with God. Run with it.

  1. Good writing Dave! I love the simple yet profound truth presented here. The thing that monetarily cost us nothing is of the greatest overall value. 🤔
