But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.” – James 4:6
I’m guessing you probably remember the story of the Exodus and how God supplied the children of Israel with a daily supply of manna, that bread-like substance from heaven? Everyday he gave them plenty, but if they tried to stockpile it, the manna would get all gross and go to waste.
Ever wonder why was it such a big deal if they saved some for later? It seems that God was teaching them to trust Him on a daily basis. He was building their confidence in Him. If they could have just put a bunch of manna in storage, that would have squashed their daily fellowship with God.
I wonder if God doesn’t still dispense grace in the same way today?
By grace I mean the unearned, undeserved favor and kindness that God gives. Take inventory of your life and you’ll see His grace everywhere. When you accepted Jesus as your Savior, for example, that was all by God’s grace (see Ephesians 2:8-9).
But, if that weren’t enough, the Lord continues to generously dish out grace on a regular basis to help us with our everyday needs and struggles. He gives more grace.
I like to think of it in terms of each of us having a grace bucket. God knows that if we are going have anything in our buckets by which to share with others, it’s on Him to make sure we’re full. As for me, I need a bucket full every day.
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need. -Hebrews 4:16
Need some grace today? Is life emptying your bucket? No worries, because God’s grace reservoir is bottomless. When it comes to giving out grace, He has a free-refills plan. All you need, a day at a time. All you have to do is ask.
It’s a new day with God. Run with it.
